A Child's Place at Mercy

A Child's Place at Mercy focuses on providing care to children who are suspected to having been abused or neglected. Dr. Mary Carrasco leads Western Pennsylvania's most experienced team for assessment of suspected child sexual abuse. A Child's Place at Mercy is affiliated with Uptown Pediatric Associates and has two main components. The program for children who are victims of sexual abuse provides:

• Over 40 years of combined experience in the evaluation of suspected child abuse
• Over 10,000 assessments conducted or supervised by team members
• Psychosocial evaluations of suspected child and adolescent victims of child maltreatment
• Medical examinations by an expert physician trained and experienced in the evaluation of child sexual abuse
• Coordination of multi-disciplinary communications and investigation by law enforcement and child protective service professionals.

The second component provides a continuum of health care for children who have been placed in foster care. The foster care program provides:

• Coordinated health care case management services
• Primary health care services
• Information regarding the medical needs and histories of the children to foster parents and medical providers
• Support services to foster parents, social service providers, and physicians
• Intake and discharge physicals.
